The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
